Special interest areas
For the last 20 years, I have worked as a counsellor in higher education, with students of all ages and backgrounds. My time in this setting has given me a rich understanding of transitions, relationships, culture, identity and loss. I understand the pressure that manifests at certain points in the academic year, as well as the requirement for timely support..
My practice reflects my belief that you are the expert in your own life. My sessions are non-directive which means you decide what happens; together we will explore your thoughts and feelings at a pace that feels right for you. At our first meeting I will ask you some questions: this is to get an idea of your concerns and how they affect you. I might also ask if anything has been helpful in the past. I will also ask you what you hope to gain from the session, so that we can stay focused on your needs. As we talk, I will respond to what you say with reflections and observations that I hope will be helpful, by providing you with a different perspective.
