Special interest areas

My counselling practice is based on Person Centred theory in that it is grounded in empathy, warmth and unconditional positive regard for my clients , however I also draw on Psychodynamic theory and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy as well to tailor the therapy to the needs of the client. Completing degree level qualifications in CBT and Youth Counselling, an MA in Counselling and Psychotherapy and post qualifying training in trauma focused CBT has equipped me with the knowledge and skills to build collaborative and effective therapeutic relationships with clients and to provide effective talking treatments for issues such as stress, anxiety and childhood trauma. I have also had specific training in delivering CBT and DBT based coping skills which can enable clients to learn ways of managing their emotions more effectively and have had specialist training in effective ways of reducing anxiety. I have a wealth of training and experience working with clients of all ages who are neuro diverse with a particular specialist interest in supporting clients to understand and manage anxiety, predominantly using a CBT based approach which can be particularly effective. .

Personal Statement

I have a wealth of experience working therapeutically with clients of all ages using a range of therapeutic approaches. I seek to understand each clients' experiences from their perspective to help us understand how the difficulties have come about and in order for us to find effective ways of moving forward. I offer clients a warm, safe and confidential space to express and explore difficult thoughts and feelings without fear or blame in order to reduce psychological distress, to enable them to develop effective ways of coping and enhance overall emotional wellbeing. I offer clients a free, introductory session in order for them to find out if I am the right therapist for them and to look at how we might work together.
